QUESTION OF THE DAY: Can President Trump end birthright citizenship?

Many people think birthright citizenship, a right laid out in the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and other federal laws, is ironclad.

President Donald Trump is not among them.

Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office meant to chip away at birthright citizenship. It quickly drew legal challenges.

The new president and his administration believe they have a valid argument that illegal immigrants are not subject to U.S. jurisdiction and thus their children are not citizens.
