WEATHER ALERT DAY: Damaging winds possible overnight Thursday into Friday morning

Thursday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day as there is a chance for strong storms overnight Thursday into the pre-dawn hours Friday morning. These will not be as intense as the storms the region experienced last Friday.

SETUP:

A dry line across eastern Kansas will develop storms on Thursday night. These storms will have modest instability to feed on as they spread eastward, bringing a chance for strong to marginally severe storms overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

TIMING:

Storms will initiate on Thursday afternoon in Kansas and then spread eastward. Arrival timing in mid-Missouri is likely near midnight. With storms spreading eastward, we expect further weakening and even less severe threats.

HAZARDS & IMPACTS:

The overall severe threat is low, but storms will likely bring gusty winds. Severity is in question overall, as storms arrive during the overnight hours when instability is quickly waning. Severe level winds or not, it would be prudent to secure loose lawn ornaments and furniture.
