Weather Alert Day: Triple digits forecast to end the week as heat dome expands

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for Thursday and Friday as temperatures climb to triple digits with excessive humidity.

SETUP

A heat dome over the Deep South has peaked, bringing extreme heat through Friday. This system will gradually diminish into the weekend, but not before leaving the region steamy for the end of the week.

Heat under this system has also led to chances for strong storms in the coming days, as Mid-Missouri sits under the northern rim of the heat dome.

TRACK

Currently, we are set to see temperatures around 100 degrees, and the heat index could reach upwards of 106 degrees on Friday. Severe wind and hail are possible from scattered storms throughout Friday and again on Saturday.

HOW TO PREPARE

Limiting time outdoors during this extreme heat is essential, and you should have a water bottle on hand at all times. Try to get plans out of the way in the early or late parts of the day, when temperatures are cooler. Also consider dressing lighter, to help your body lose heat in the humid conditions. Pay close attention to pets and sensitive individuals who may be more affected by the extreme heat.
