WEATHER ALERT DAY: Light precipitation overnight, Tuesday morning slick spots

MONDAY EVENING UPDATE

Light drizzle is coming down from Columbia to Jefferson City before 7:00 PM with the steadier rainfall south of Highway 54. Another batch of light snow and sleet is moving in from the west, but not much more accumulation is expected for the rest of tonight. However, temperatures will fall a few more degrees to near or below freezing, allowing for slushy and slick spots going into Tuesday morning, mainly on elevated surfaces.

Slick roads were reported earlier this morning, too.

SYNOPSIS

Additional snowfall tonight will amount to less than half an inch with a light band moving in from the west. A glaze of ice will be possible west of Highway 63 where temperatures will fall below freezing.

The heaviest snow will be from northern Boone County through Marshall and Sedalia. 1-2" (isolated 3") is expected on grassy surfaces.

TIMING

Snow has started to taper off, with rainfall continuing to push southeast overnight.

IMPACTS

Accumulation between 0.5" and 1" of wet snow will accumulation on grassy and elevated surfaces from about Warsaw to Columbia to Mexico. There will be a narrow area of 1-2" from Sedalia to Boonville to Moberly. Low visibility can be expected at times, along with slushy spots on the roads as ground temperatures are above freezing. Elevated roads such as bridges or hills may become slick Monday night as lows fall into the 20s overnight.
