Road closure announced for roundabout construction at Centralia intersection

CENTRALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An intersection involving three Missouri highways will be under construction beginning next week, according to a Wednesday press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Crews will temporarily close Highway 151 in Centralia for up to 28 consecutive days, beginning on Monday. A new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Highways 151, 22 and 124.

The project is expected to be completed next year and will cost $1.1 million, according to MoDOT.

“The existing four-way intersection creates less-than-optimal safety conditions for traffic. By installing a roundabout, the potential impact points for crashes, especially t-bone crashes, is greatly reduced, lowering the chance of a serious or fatal crash. The plans include improvements that will enhance safety, drivability, and traffic flow,” MoDOT’s website says.
