Subsurface borings on Highway 63, I-70 in Columbia will lead to lane closures later this month

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be performing subsurface boring operations next week in both directions on sections of Interstate 70 and Highway 63, according to a Friday press release.

Work will begin on Wednesday, April 17, and is expected to last through Friday, April 26, the release says. Intermittent closures of one lane will occur, the release states. At least one lane of traffic will be open in each direction at all times:

  • Crews will reduce northbound and southbound Highway 63 to one lane in each direction between approximately Broadway and Interstate 70 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily from Wednesday, April 17-Monday, April 22.
  • Crews will have nightly intermittent lane closures along eastbound and westbound Interstate 70at approximately mile marker 129.6, just east of Highway 63 in Columbia from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. from Monday, April 22-Friday, April 26.

The Improve I-70 project, which will make Interstate 70 a three-lane highway across the entire state. Construction for the first section between Columbia and Kingdom City starts this summer and is expected to be completed in late 2027, according to the release.
