Boone County deputy injured in crash in patrol vehicle

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Boone County deputy was injured in a crash in his patrol vehicle on Tuesday afternoon, according to an email from Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Brian Leer.

Leer wrote that two deputies were responding to a call and had their lights and sirens on while heading north on Route B.

One of the deputies allegedly tried to pass a vehicle that was turning left onto Oakland Church Road and a collision occurred, Leer wrote.

“It is believed the person did not see or hear the approaching patrol vehicle and did not know they were turning into the path of the approaching patrol vehicle,” Leer wrote. “The deputy attempted to avoid the collision, so there was not a heavy angled impact; however, there was extensive damage to the patrol vehicle and moderate damage to the other vehicle.”

The vehicle went off the road, went through a ditch and stopped in an embankment, Leer wrote. The deputy had minor “and sought evaluation/treatment; however, they have been released to regular duty,” Leer wrote.
