2 injured, 1 seriously in Highway 63 crash near Boone-Callaway line
BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Two senior citizens were injured – one seriously – in a crash Thursday night on Highway 63, near the Boone-Callaway County line, a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report says.
The report says that a 2013 Nissan Quest was heading southbound in the passing lane just north of County Road 399 when it tried to move to the driving lane. The driver – a 65-year-old man from Holts Summit – saw another vehicle traveling next to the Nissan and swerved back to the left lane to avoid a collision, the report says.
The driver then overcorrected and the vehicle went off the right side of the road, went down an embankment, hit multiple trees and overturned on its passenger side, the report says.
The man had moderate injuries, while the passenger – a 72-year-old woman from Holts Summit – suffered serious injuries, the report says. Both people were wearing seatbelts and both were brought to University Hospital by ambulance.
The vehicle was totaled. The crash occurred at 5:33 p.m., according to the report, and the driving lane reopened around 7:30 p.m.
Collin Wright, of the Southern Boone County Fire Protection District, told ABC 17 News at the scene that it took about 40 minutes to pull the injured people from the vehicle, which rolled into the creek.
