COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A crash that caused traffic to stall on Interstate 70 for hours in Cooper County was caused by a tractor-trailer, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

According to the report, a 2006 Peterbilt 379 – driven by a 63-year-old man from Springfield, Missouri – was heading eastbound when it changed lanes and hit a nearby Ford F-150 into a wall at the Lamine River Bridge.

The Ford was driven by a 42-year-old woman from Sturgis, Kentucky, who suffered moderate injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt, the report says. A passenger in the Ford – an 8-year-old boy – was secured in a safety device and had minor injuries, according to the report. Both people were brought to University Hospital in Columbia by ambulance.

The driver of the Peterbilt was wearing a seatbelt and had no reported injuries. The Peterbilt had minor damage, while the Ford was totaled, the report says.
