COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Traffic was limited down to one lane of traffic on Westbound Interstate 70 after a semi-truck crashed on Monday afternoon near West Highway BB and Route J in Boone County.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F said troopers are investigating a crash on I-70 where a semi-truck overturned on the side of the road.

ABC 17 News saw about eight emergency responder vehicles at the scene. MSHP said in its tweet the driver of the truck was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries.

The truck was seen with its roof torn off and boxes spilled along the side of the interstate.

Troopers initially said the crash involved one vehicle.

The MSHP crash report states two semi-trucks were involved in a crash after a 2023 Kenworth Tractor Trailer hit the right side of a 2020 Freightliner Tractor Trailer. The Kenworth then went off the side of the road and into a ditch hitting trees.

The 45-year-old driver of the Kenworth from Lafollette, Tennessee was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries. The other driver was not hurt.

Both men were reported to have seat belts on at the time of the crash.

A Boone County Joint Communication was sent out at 12:47 p.m. The road was reopened around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The passing lane of Interstate 70 was temporarily closed while crews worked to clean up the scene.
