Five injured in Howard County crash

HOWARD COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Five people were injured – four seriously – in a Tuesday crash in Howard County on Highway 5, south of County Road 345, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The report says a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva – driven by Heaven-Lee Hundley, 19, of Fayette – was heading southbound and slowed down to make a left turn. A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado – driven by Jediah Shields, 45, of Higbee – rear-ended the Captiva and caused the Captiva to go into the path of a 2010 Ford Fusion – driven by Mark Thomann, 72, of Boonville – that was heading northbound, the report states.

The Ford hit the Captiva before the Captiva overturned, the report states. All three drivers and Thomann’s two passengers – Virginia Thomann, 73, of Boonville, and Carolyn Volden, 73, of New Franklin – were injured in the crash. Thomann had moderate injuries, while everyone else had serious injuries, the report shows.

Volden was flown to University Hospital and the other four people were brought to University Hospital by ambulance, the report states. Shields was not wearing a seatbelt. The Chevrolet Captiva and Ford were totaled, while the Chevrolet Silverado had extensive damage, according to the report.
