Two people released from hospital after I-70 crash

COOPER COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two people are now recovering after they were hurt in a crash on Interstate 70 in Cooper County on Monday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the crash happened at 4:57 p.m. on I-70 at the 105-mile marker.

Troopers said 18-year-old John Spiers of Odessa was driving westbound in a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix when he crossed through the median, hit the cables and into the eastbound lanes of traffic.

The crash report said Spiers hit James Hathman, 33 of Harrisburg, driving a 2017 Freightliner MT55.

Spiers was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries, according to the Highway Patrol. MU Health Care said he was treated and released as of Tuesday morning.

Hathman was taken to University Hospital in a private vehicle with minor injuries. MU Health Care said Hathman was also treated and released as of Tuesday.

Both drivers were reported to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
