Crash report names Cole County deputy involved in car crash

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's crash report shared that 22-year-old Mercy Gonzalez was the Cole County deputy involved in a car crash late Friday night.

Corporal Chris Winter with the Missouri State Highway Patrol told ABC 17 News that a deputy was injured in a crash Friday night on West Edgewood Drive in Jefferson City.

Winter said the crash occurred as the deputy was traveling South on Missouri 179 to assist another deputy.

"A deputy was on an emergency run headed South from Missouri 179 to assist another deputy," Winter said. "(He) entered the intersection and collided with a vehicle that was Eastbound on West Edgewood."

According to the crash report, Gonzalez suffered moderate injuries and the other driver has serious injuries. Both victims were transported by ambulance to University Hospital.

A RAVE alert from 8:51 p.m. stated that traffic would be diverted from the north and southbound lanes of Highway 179. At 12:40 a.m. Saturday, another RAVE alert was sent, stated that both lanes had reopened.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw a Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle in a ditch, as well as a white vehicle that was damaged. The reporter also saw five Jefferson City Police Department vehicles and one Cole County Sheriff's deputy at the scene.
