Woman riding in horse-drawn buggy dies from Johnson County crash

JOHNSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 20-year-old Holden woman died Thursday from injuries she suffered in a Wednesday crash while riding in a horse-drawn buggy, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The crash occurred when a 2011 Dodge Ram – driven by Jacob Truex, 36, of Chilhowee -- rear-ended the buggy on southbound Route O, just north of Southwest 745th Road, according to the report.

Katie Kemp and Chris Kemp were ejected from the buggy, according to the report. The buggy stopped on top of the horse that was pulling it, the report states.

Katie Kemp was flown to, and eventually pronounced dead at Research Medical Center. Chris Kemp, 22, of Holden, suffered minor injuries and was brought to Research Medical Center by ambulance, according to the report.

Truex had no reported injuries and the Dodge had extensive damage, according to the report. The buggy was reported as totaled.
