Two babies hurt in Monroe County crash

MONROE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two babies and two adults suffered injuries in a Friday crash in Monroe County on Highway 15 about five miles north of Paris, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred as a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu – driven by Jason Rieger, 25, of Paris, Missouri – was heading north and went off the right side of road. Rieger overcorrected and the vehicle skid of the left side, hit the ground and overturned.

A passenger -- Debra Shepherd, 20, of Paris – was ejected and suffered serious injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Two baby girls – ages 0 and 1 – suffered moderate injuries, according to the report. They were secured in safety devices.

The 1-year-old was brought to University Hospital by ambulance, while the baby younger than 1 was flown there. Shepherd was also flown to University Hospital.

Rieger had minor injuries and was brought to University Hospital by ambulance. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The Chevrolet was totaled, according to the report.
