One person dead, another injured in Highway 54 wreck in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person is dead and another is injured after trying to cross Highway 54 in Jefferson City Thursday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Mary Chegwidden, 84, of Jefferson City, was traveling east on Hamman Drive in a 2000 Buick LeSabre when she failed to yield to a 2016 Subaru Outback driven by Shaun McClure, 40, of Eldon.

Chegwidden was crossing westbound Highway 54 when the crash happened.

Chegwidden was pronounced dead at Capital Region Hospital.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck.

This is Troop F's fourth fatality for June and 35 in 2022.

Traffic returned to normal after a 45-minute delay.
