A Sedalia man was seriously hurt in a two-vehicle wreck just south of Sedalia city limits on Sunday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report said 65-year-old Gary E. Brandes had to be flown to University Hospital in Columbia after the crash.

Brandes and a 6-year-old were riding on an ATV on Springfork Road just east of Rod and Gun Club Road in Pettis County around 3:17 p.m., the crash report said.

Troopers said the ATV was following 30-year-old Joshua L. Brandes who was driving a go-kart -- both vehicles were going westbound.

The go-kart stopped in the roadway and the ATV rear-ended it, the report said. The ATV rolled over and ejected Brandes and the child passenger.

The highway patrol said the 6-year-old and the younger Brandes had minor injuries from the crash. Both were treated at the scene, troopers said.

None of the people were wearing helmets, the report said.

As of Monday morning, hospital officials say Brandes was in good condition.
