Man arrested on suspicion of DWI in deadly Boonville crash

BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested a Boonville man on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a deadly crash on Highway 5.

According to MSHP crash reports, Richard Nichols, 46, crossed into the southbound lanes of Highway 5 shortly after 9 p.m. Monday. Nichols hit another car head-on about a quarter-mile south of Smith Street.

Ryan Scott, 29, died at the scene.

Troopers arrested Nichols on suspicion of DWI in the death of another and careless and imprudent driving resulting in a crash.

Nichols was released from custody and transported to University Hospital in Columbia with moderate injuries.
