Two people were minorly hurt after a train crashed into a semi-tractor trailer outside of Tipton Monday afternoon.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report said the truck was stopped on the railroad tracks when its trailer was hit around 12:50 p.m.

Troopers said Matthew D. Dimmitt, 23, of Lees Summit, Mo., and Rick L. Latham, 54, of Sedalia, were traveling west in a General Electric locomotive near US Highway 50 east of Class Crossing.

According to the report, Dimmit was driving the train when it hit the truck being driven by Mikel Gomez, 46, Houston, Texas.

The semi was totaled and the train had extensive damage, the highway patrol said. Crews left the locomotive at the crash site.

Troopers said Dimmit and Latham had minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to a Sedalia hospital.
