Man dies Friday afternoon in crash on I-70 in Cooper County

COOPER COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri Highway State Patrol reports a fatal wreck on Interstate 70 Friday afternoon in Cooper County.

Deputies report that Nicholas Barbieri was driving eastbound in a truck on I-70 when he tried to pass an 18-wheeler. Barbieri's vehicle left the roadway and that is when officials say Barbieri overcorrected and hit the 18-wheeler. Barbieri's vehicle then hit the median cables, overturned and hit several traffic signs.

Barbieri was pronounced dead on scene.

Barbieri has a juvenile passenger in the vehicle with him and he was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Missouri Highway Patrol Troop F reports this is the ninth fatality for September and 60 for 2020.
