CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

State troopers say a Hermann man was killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 70 westbound Sunday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report said Jared Schales, 40, died in the crash in Callaway County.

Schales was a passenger in an SUV being driven by his wife Rebecca Schales, 24, which was in the passing lane on the interstate around 3:40 p.m., the report said.

Troopers say a passenger car driven by 44-year-old Felice Price, of Denver, Colorado, crashed into Schales' vehicle after trying to pass the SUV near mile marker 140.6.

The SUV overcorrected, went off the left side of the highway, hit the median and overturned, the report said.

Schales was thrown from the vehicle. He was confirmed dead by Stacey Huck from the Boone/Callaway County Medical Examiner's Office just before 4 p.m.

Troopers say Rebecca Schales received minor injuries and was taken to a Columbia hospital.

The report added four children inside the Schale's vehicle were hurt in the wreck.

A 9-year-old had moderate injuries, the others received minor injuries. Each was taken to the hospital, according to the report.

Trooper said Price was not hurt in the crash.
