Springfield man dies in Cole County crash

HICKORY HILL, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE: The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that David March, 49, of Springfield, Missouri, was killed in a crash on Highway 54 on Monday.

March was pronounced dead at the scene after his tractor-trailer ran off the road, hit a cement culvert and caught fire.

ORIGINAL: State troopers tweeted at least one person died in a crash near Hickory Hill in Cole County Monday morning.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F tweeted at 8:40 a.m. that troopers were at the scene of the fatal crash at the intersection of eastbound Highway 54 and United Road.

The tweet said a commercial vehicle was the only vehicle involved in the crash. It's unclear as of Monday morning how many people were hurt in the wreck.

The MoDOT Traveler Information map said the crash was called out at 8:24 a.m.

A tweet from the transportation department said an eastbound lane of 54 was closed and that delays could affect traffic for hours.
