The Rocheport Bridge Sunday morning after an explosion

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A portion of Interstate 70 near Rocheport is scheduled to close for an hour Sunday to blast footings of the old Missouri River bridge at Rocheport, according to a Tuesday press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The interstate and a perimeter around the blast will be closed 7:30-9:30 a.m., according to the release. The blast is set to take place at 8 a.m. Traffic on Interstate 70, in both directions, will be stopped just prior to the blast, the release states.

This comes after another blast was conducted Sunday, but the public wasn’t alerted. A project director told ABC 17 News earlier this week that more than 30 planned explosions have occurred at the site of the old bridge.

The truss of the bridge was blown off in September. The majority of the blast will be underwater, according to the release.
