MSHP names drivers who died in Highway 54 crash south of Lake of the Ozarks

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Highway 54 was closed in both directions Wednesday afternoon in Camden County after a crash, the Missouri Department of Transportation tweeted.

Brandyn Yates, 42, of Urbana, Missouri, and Rubin Stoufer, 86, of Macks Creek, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. Neither were wearing seatbelts. Both were brought to Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, the report states.

The crash occurred as a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado – driven by Stoufer – was heading eastbound as it crossed the centerline and hit Yates’ vehicle head-on, according to the crash report. Yates was driving a 2016 Nissan Rogue.

Both vehicles were totaled.

MoDOT sent the tweet at about 1 p.m. The state's traveler information map showed the closure started at 12:45 p.m. and lasted until 3:22 p.m., according to the Camden County Sheriff's Office. The highway was closed east of Route J near Kissick Way.
