COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -

A Boonville woman accused of embezzling from a non-profit she worked for is now in the Cooper County Jail.

Jennifer Waibel, 52, spent nearly $50,000 on a credit card owned by Unlimited Opportunities Incorporated in the summer of 2023, according to a probable cause statement.

She is scheduled to be back in court on Nov. 17. Sheriff Chris Class said she is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.

The non-profit is also partially funded by taxpayer contributions through the Cooper County Board of Sheltered Services.

Unlimited Opportunities Incorporated and Waibel agreed to go their separate ways if she paid the non-profit $50,000 as part of a settlement agreement, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Employees were allegedly threatened with retaliation if they talked about the situation.

She is charged with stealing more than $25,000.
