COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -

Boone Health plans to build a new health clinic in Howard County.

The provider announced on Thursday that it is building a new clinic in Glasgow, about 20 minutes northwest of Fayette and 50 minutes away from Columbia. The new clinic will allow them to add more staff and install an X-ray machine, something Boone Health said is in short supply in the community.

Howard County has no hospitals, according to state health department information. Neither does neighboring counties Chariton or Cooper. Boone Health said the new clinic will also offer expanded services, like IVs and stitches and staples for wounds.

Glasgow, a town of about 1,000 people along the Missouri River near the borders of Chariton and Saline counties, needs more medical resources like this, nurse practitioner Melinda Hart said in a news release.

"Currently, if patients in our community require an X-ray, they have to drive up to an hour depending on the time of day," Hart said. "Having the technology here will help us provide appropriate care much quicker and potentially stave off more serious complications."

CEO Brady DuBois said Boone Health is getting up to $1 million from the Boone Health Foundation, a nonprofit that seeks to improve "patient care and the outreach programs and services of Boone Health."

"The project reflects the Foundation's ongoing mission to improve and invest in the health of the people in the communities we serve. We are excited to partner with Boone Health in making this vision a reality," Foundation president Arlene Hines said in a news release on Thursday.

Boone Health said it expected construction to be done sometime in the summer or early fall of 2026.
