COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -

Work is now complete on the Highway 54 tri-level bridge ahead of schedule, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Construction crews with E&C Bridge LLC finished work on the bridge over Missouri Boulevard on Wednesday night. MoDOT said in a news release Thursday that the work was expected to stretch into October.

MoDOT has been working on several bridges along Highway 54 in Cole County since the start of the summer, narrowing the highway to one lane in each direction since May. The state Highways and Transportation Commission awarded E&C the $5.3 million contract in January.

"With the rehabilitation work on seven bridges now complete, MoDOT does not anticipate additional traffic impacts on U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City for this project.," the news release said.

Crews are still working on the bridge over the Neighorn Branch south of Jefferson City, which MoDOT expects to last until November. Westbound 54 will also stay narrowed at the Moreau River Drainage into early October.

MoDOT is also planning to narrow the lanes on Highway 50 to one lane in each direction for bridge work over Vetter Lane on Monday. The Clark Avenue ramp onto eastbound Highway 50 and the Eastland Drive ramp onto westbound Highway 50 will close for the work.
