COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Parks and Recreation requested over $350,000 in funds to go to various projects, including a replacement for the Northeast Regional Park Northeast Event Center roof.

The Columbia City Council is scheduled to vote on the proposal as well as other budget plans Monday.

The event center is an 88,000 square foot building that is available for rent from January through September. If approved, the roof replacement will cost $200,000 dollars.

Parks and Recreation Director Gabe Huffington said in a statement that the building is a key rental facility and over the past two years, the roof has undergone multiple repairs.

"In terms of event disruption, we have not had to cancel any events but have had to coordinate cleanup of small areas of water on the floor of the building," Huffington said.

The roof currently has over 20 leaks, City Council meeting documents say.

Once the roof is replaced, the department will focus on improving insulation in the center. Other Parks and Rec funding requests include improvements to the Rainbow Softball Center facilities and curb repairs at the Albert-Oakland Park.

Monday's City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m.
