COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Fire Protection District responded to a fire in the 6000 block of North Creasy Springs Road early Saturday morning.

Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp said an about 30-foot by 50-foot structure was on fire that appeared to be a garage or workshop. It was fully engulfed when BCFPD arrived.

An ABC 17 News reporter arrived at the scene around 4:00 a.m. and saw multiple Boone County Fire Protection District vehicles and an MU ambulance.

No one was hurt in the fire.

Due to the majority of the building being engulfed, BCFPD crews decided not to send crews inside and handle the fire defensively.

Blomenkamp said firefighters surrounded the building from a safe distance and focused on hotspots to prevent the fire from spreading as the structure burned down.

"We're not going to fight that, trying to get that metal out of there to put out every little hot spot. The fire's not going to go anywhere, it's going to be well contained, we're just going to let it smolder out.

Blomenkamp added that the fire was a total loss for the building.

The scene cleared at 5:23 a.m.
