At least 3 tornadoes hit St. Louis area Friday, National Weather Service confirms
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The National Weather Service in St. Louis has confirmed three tornadoes hit the St. Louis area during Friday's storms, according to a Saturday X post.
The NWS has confirmed the following:
- An EF-2 near Villa Ridge
- An EF-2 in Jefferson County from Hillsboro to Arnold
- An EF-1 south of Union in Franklin County
The Enhanced Fujita scale (EF scale) categorizes an EF-1 tornado as having 86-110 miles per hour three-second wind gusts and an EF-2 tornado as having 111-135 miles per hour three-second wind gusts.
The agency will continue to survey areas throughout Missouri and Illinois Sunday and Monday, the post says.
We have confirmed 3 tornadoes from yesterday's storms. An EF-2 in Jefferson County from Hillsboro to Arnold. An EF-2 near Villa Ridge and an EF-1 south of Union in Franklin County. We will continue surveying other areas in Missouri and Illinois tomorrow and Monday.

The agency surveyed extensive storm damage in Villa Ridge Saturday. It says the tornado traveled 13 miles northeast from Villa Ridge to Fox Creek for about 15 minutes Friday night.
"The tornado did extensive damage to many homes, trees, and caused the collapse of a microwave tower," NWS St. Louis says.
The collapsed microwave tower can be seen on the bottom right of their damage survey results post.
One injury has been reported.
