Autopsy complete for missing Lake of the Ozarks toddler
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The investigation of two-year-old Iszabella Obryan's death at the Lake of the Ozarks is still ongoing as the medical examiner completed an autopsy of Obryan's body today.
The results, any suspects, and Obryan's photo are still yet to be released.
Several agencies around the Lake of the Ozarks searched for Obryan on Monday afternoon and evening after she was reported missing on Tenney Road. First responders were dispatched around 4:45 p.m. to find Obryan. A deputy found her in the water of the Bollinger Creek Cove just after 8 p.m.
Colonel Scott Hines of the Camden County Sheriff's Office said in an email Camden County has its share of missing persons cases with local hikers being a common case. Hines adds that people of certain ages, who have communication barriers, or cognitive disabilities are more difficult to find.
"Sometimes we have elderly persons with dementia go missing which requires a coordinated response, like we saw in this case," Hines said.
Some people on social media voiced a desire to help with search efforts after Obryan's body was found. Sheriff Chris Edgar said that while the department greatly appreciates community support, people should give law enforcement space in the early stages of an investigation.
"If we're trying to locate a child or a person, we need to have that scene where people haven't been moving all over it due to being able to get canines out there," Edgar said.
Edgar adds that law enforcement will reach out for help once a command structure is set up in an investigation.
"Everybody wants to help and we want to be able to have people help, we just have to make sure we're doing the best thing for the victim or the person that's missing at that time and at that time, it's holding on and keep it is the least amount of people in that areas at first."
ABC 17 News reached out to the county prosecutor for more information but did not hear back.
