Jefferson City crews clean up the snow in preparation for Kehoe inauguration
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Jefferson City's Public Works started hauling snow out of the Capitol area at 2 a.m. Saturday for general snow clean up and to also help prepare for Gov.-elect Mike Kehoe's inauguration.
"That operation is ongoing, same with our parking division, they'll be coming in early on Monday morning checking everything, because we're expecting a lot of visitors within our downtown area," Jefferson City Public Works Operations Division Director Britt Smith said.
Outside of the Capitol's South lawn, Capital Ave. from the Capitol to the Governor's Mansion will be used for a promenade of the Budweiser Clydesdales after the inauguration ceremony.
Security will also be monitoring the area during inauguration festivities.
"We're excited for it and looking forward to to that event," Smith said. "It is a bit of a pride for Jefferson City that we get to host that every four years now."
Smith plans for major Capitol clean up to be completed by 8 a.m. Saturday, however Jefferson City Public Works will continue to manage any snow and ice leading up to inauguration day.
