Juvenile detained in connection to shots fired on Clark Lane Saturday night

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A juvenile was detained after attempting to commit a robbery and shooting at people on Clark Lane in Northeast Columbia Saturday night, according to the Columbia Police Department.

The juvenile was detained on charges of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to a release from the department, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 4800 block of Clark Ln. around 8:20 p.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived they found two adult men who had been shot. Officers provided medical aid until EMS arrived. Both victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

While police were at the scene, they were informed a juvenile had arrived at a local hospital by personal vehicle with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Through investigation, Columbia Police learned the juvenile had tried to commit a robbery and fired shots into a car the two adult victims were in, the release states.

A resident of The Greens at Columbia who wished to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation said their concern about their safety in Columbia is rising due to a troubling pattern of crime.

"I think that's just like so sad that our neighborhoods are like that, no matter where you are in Columbia," he said. "Because I was on like the opposite side of Columbia and I got like my car broken into by some teen who just wanted to steal a car. And then like now things are happening here and it's like, it's just sad."

Ward 5 City Councilman Don Waterman told ABC 17 News via tex message that he finds the violence in the city to be tragic.

"It's tragic that too many individuals, including juveniles, believe the only way to resolve differences is by physical violence," Waterman said.

An ABC News reporter on scene saw a portion of 'The Greens at Columbia' apartment complex blocked off with crime scene tape Saturday night. Nearly a dozen Columbia Police Department vehicles and a Columbia Fire Department truck were also on scene.
