One man shot in east Columbia early Sunday morning, one arrested

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department arrested a person in connection with a shooting that sent one man to the hospital early Sunday morning, according to a press release from the department.

The release states that Kadean Cunningham, 21, of Columbia was arrested around 2 a.m. on charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree domestic assault.

According to the release, officers responded to a disturbance involving a weapon in the 2800 block of Jacobs Place at around 12:15 a.m. Two men and a woman had been in an argument and one of the men had been shot and left the scene, according to the release.

Police officers found the victim in the 2600 block of E. Broadway. He was taken to a local hospital by ambulance and was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Columbia Police officers were seen investigating in the area of Applebee's at 2601 E. Broadway.

ABC 17 News was in the parking lot of the Applebee's at around 12:40 a.m. and saw five Columbia Police Department cruisers, an MU Health Care ambulance and an MU Health Care vehicle.

Sergent Chris Hobbs, with the Columbia Police Department, told ABC 17 News the department was in the area investigating a shots fired call. Hobbs told ABC 17 News there is one, possibly two victims.

ABC 17 News saw one person inside the ambulance and police officers searching around and inside the restaurant.

The scene was cleared at around 1:15 a.m.
