Alleged robbery over fentanyl leads to two people shot in Callaway County
CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ) -
Deputies have arrested one person after they and another were shot in Callaway County on Saturday morning.
The Callaway County Sheriff's Office said that it arrested 42-year-old Kibby Freeman of Mexico, Mo. The office said in a Facebook post that Freeman was a party involved in a robbery over fentanyl on County Road 240 near Highway 54 just before 2 a.m.
The sheriff's office said first responders found Freeman and a 20-year-old woman from Mexico., Mo. had been shot.
"Following a lengthy investigation, it was determined that the incident was a targeted robbery involving a controlled substance (fentanyl)," the post said. "During the robbery, a shotgun was discharged, striking Freeman and the female victim. Upon Freeman's release from the hospital deputies subsequently arrested him for his involvement in the robbery."
The post does not say who fired the shotgun or what roles Freeman and the woman played in the alleged drug robbery. Major Curtis Hall with told ABC 17 News that witnesses told them that the shotgun went off "during an altercation over" it. The sheriff's office said the woman was still in the hospital in serious condition.
Prosecutors charged Freeman with ten crimes, including robbery, three counts of assault, endangering a child, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, illegal possession of a weapon, stealing a weapon and tampering with evidence.
