Hundreds still without power in Mid-Missouri after storms Tuesday morning
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
More than 4,000 customers were without power Tuesday morning across Mid-Missouri with the majority reported in Chariton, Howard and Randolph Counties after storms rolled through.
Missouri Department of Transportation reported at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday that Route C in Randolph County is closed half a mile north of Route JJ in Huntsville due to power lines down. It is unclear when the road will reopen.
As of 2:10 p.m., 375 Ameren customers in Randolph County were without power, 118 customers of three co-ops were without power according to the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives’ map, and 185 customers of Farmers’ Electric Cooperative did not have power. There were also 111 Three Rivers Electric Cooperative customers without power in Gasconade County
During the outage's peak, 2,354 are without power in Chariton County and 1,113 are in the dark in Howard County as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Evergy power outage map.
Evergy wrote in an email that storms left "significant damage" near Brunswick. A spokesperson said several poles on the main line are down and crews are assessing the situation.
At 10:45 a.m. Ameren reported 1,096 customers did not have power in Randolph County. An Ameren spokesperson confirmed the outage is also storm-related.
The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team reported the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch just after 7 a.m. through 1 p.m. on Tuesday for Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Macon, Pettis, Randolph and Saline counties. This included several severe warnings for the same counties.
Three Rivers Electric Cooperative reported 355 without power before noon. Around 110 of those members were without power near Meta after lightning hit an insulator and caught fire, according to a Facebook post.
The Chariton County Sheriff's Department said in a Facebook post the department was available for anyone needing assistance after the storms.
The Chariton County E911 Facebook reported power outages in Keytesville, Brunswick and Salisbury.
