Experts have been warning us for months that this late spring would be a noisy one.

Now the time is here.

Periodical cicadas are emerging in Mid-Missouri and other parts of the country. This year is marked by the emergence of two separate broods on different breeding cycles.

While the insects are noisy, they're harmless to pets and people and mostly harmless to plants.
