WHAT’S GOING AROUND: Doctors see typical flu season and cases of COVID-19
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Here is a roundup of the illnesses doctors say are spreading around Mid-Missouri.
MU Health Care
Dr. Laura Morris with MU Health Care says flu cases have plateaued and even slightly declined. She says doctors at MU Health Care are expecting this year to be a typical flu season with cases extending into the early spring.
As far as COVID-19, Morris says hospitalizations are stable with fewer patients recently admitted with COVID-19 to MU Health Care hospitals and ICUs compared to the holiday weeks in late December and early January.
RSV cases are also more on a typical seasonal trend this year, Morris said.
She says cases remain high but may be near its peak.
Boone Health in Columbia
Dr. Robin Blount with Boone Health in Columbia says they have patients who are in respiratory isolation rooms with various viruses.
Blount says 1/3 of patients are experiencing COVID-19 and another 1/3 are experiencing the flu.
However, she says there isn't much of a difference right now then pre-COVID-19 flu numbers for this time of right.
But Blount says the flu is still on the rise.
Doctors want to remind you treatment is available for COVID-19 and the flu so you can have a speedy recovery and lower the risk of being in the hospital and having serious complications.
If you are sick it's best to keep in mind supportive care like rest, fluids, medications to treat fever or other symptoms at home.
