Certification hearing for juvenile suspect in Columbia homicide set for Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Boone County Judge will decide Friday if a juvenile suspected to be involved with killing a woman at her home back in May will be tried as an adult.
The hearing is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Boone County Courthouse. The judge will go through a certification hearing to determine if the juvenile will be tried as an adult.
Back in May, officers responded to a robbery in progress call and found 72-year-old Janet Jago shot in her home on East Tayside Circle. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
Detectives were able to detain the juvenile on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action a few days after the shooting.
Due to law that protecting the privacy of juvenile suspects, the name of the suspect is not known.
The juvenile is the second suspect police found to be possibly be associated with the homicide.
A day after the shooting, officers were in an hours long standoff with another possible suspect, Jermaine M. Burnett, 32. Police later found him dead from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound at Forest Village Apartments in south Columbia.
