Drought Assessment Committee set to meet to discuss ways to respond to statewide drought conditions

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Drought Assessment Committee is set to meet Monday to continue discussions on how to respond to the recent drought effects seen statewide.

The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Lewis and Clark Building on North Riverside Road in Jefferson City and is open to the public.

This will be the committees fourth meeting since Gov. Parson issues a drought alert for 60 Missouri counties on May 31 of this year.

The meeting will go over various topics including current conditions and outlooks of the state, streamflow conditions and Missouri and Mississippi river conditions.

They will also discuss current actions and considerations for the committee and hear from their Agricultural and Commercial Navigation impact teams.

The teams include experts from the state and federal level to collect information and create reports and recommendations for the committee to take into consideration when discussing the current drought impacts and how to prevent them in the future.

The government is also encouraging Missourian's to help them identify specific areas affected by the drought so they can take them into consideration when creating a plan of action. You can help them by submitting a Condition Monitoring Observer Report survey online.

As of September 26, counties like Cooper, Saline, Pattis, Johnson, and more are all currently dealing with extreme drought.

Surrounding counties like Boone, Benton, Cole, Moniteau and Morgan Counties are seeing severe drought in the areas.

Almost all of Missouri has experienced abnormally dry conditions this past summer.
