New Jefferson City administrator to take office Monday

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Monday, Jefferson City's newest city administrator Brian Crane will start his new position with the goal of improving the cities economy and housing needs.

Back in August, Crane said he plans to address housing, economic development, workforce development, public safety and infrastructure once he takes office.

Jefferson City Mayor Ron Fitzwater said he can see Crane aiding economic growth in the city by creating more housing and low-income housing options.

Crane also plans to have the council and other officials work together to address the issue of downtown parking, which local business owners have brought to the council's attention.

The city announced that Crane will be taking over the position at a news conference back in August after Steve Crowell resigned in April after serving as city administrator for nine years.

The city immediately went on a nationwide search to find a new administrator following Crowell's resignation. They had received 39 applications for the city administrator position.

The council unanimously agreed to give the position to Crane.

Crane has 19 years of municipal government experience. Previously he served on the Jefferson City council, and as the City Manager in Moberly for about eight years.

Before he began his position in Moberly, he served as city administrator for Holts Summit in Callaway County.

Since Crowell's resignation there have been two interim city administrators taking over responsibilities. The first being city attorney Ryan Moehlman from April 17-May 15, followed by Jefferson City Fire Chief Matt Schofield who took over the position.
