Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission set to discuss new language to short term rental regulations

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a work Thursday at 7 p.m. at City Hall to discuss the new text alterations made to the proposed draft of short term rental regulations.

Some of the language changes made to the drafted document include changing the term "principal resident" to "long term resident" and a clear clarification of what it means to be a registrant, which was previously considered in the document as a "secondary resident"

Staff input on the newly drafted regulations tonight will help identify potentially more opportunities to further adjust and simplify the language of the document to reduce conflicts. However, they are not required to do so.

Thursday's meeting follows the commissions work session in August when they unanimously decided that there needed to a change in some of the language used in the document since its last modification in July.

Along with the newly drafted short term rental regulations, the commission will also have drafts of the city council report available at the meeting.

The next meeting is set for October 5 at 5:30 p.m.

The topic of short term rentals has been an ongoing discussion for quite a while now after members of the commission said Air BNB is taking over too many properties in the area for financial gain.
