Back-to-school events planned ahead of the start of the school year

As families prepare to head back to school, local charities are making sure students have what they need to succeed this year.
Powerhouse Community Development's Back to School Bash is set to be held Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the MU Healthcare Pavilion.
At Thursday's bash, free backpacks, and lunch will be provided. Household essentials, shoes and school supplies will also be available.
Hair cuts will be offered as well as free sports physical, dental and vision and hearing screenings for those heading back to school. No appointments are necessary.
At Thursday's event there will also be a health fair and a general information fair. If you miss Thursday's event, Powerhouse Community Development has also partnered with Renz Blendz to host another back to school event which starts Sunday at 8 a.m.
The Back2School event will be at Oakland Park, free haircuts will be given to students. Backpacks and school supplies will also be at the event.
