Man charged after manhunt in Montgomery County
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Prosecutors charged a man Friday in connection with a chase in Montgomery County.
According to a probable cause statement, deputies went to a home off of Highway 161 Thursday night to look for Phillip Martinez, 47, in connection with a stolen car.
Deputies say they pulled into a driveway and found the missing vehicle parked behind a barn. Martinez ran out of the barn and got into the car and sped off, nearly hitting a deputy.
Martinez allegedly led authorities on a chase that reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour through the Bellflower area. The chase went from Meadowlark Road onto Highway E. Court documents said the pursuit also went onto Interstate 70 and Highway Y. Eventually, deputies found the car wrecked on West Booneslick Road in Jonesburg.
Investigators said they searched the car and found a shotgun and suspected burglary tools.
Court documents said deputies, police dogs and a highway patrol helicopter searched the area for Martinez but were unable to find him Thursday night.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook around 4 p.m. Friday that Martinez was arrested at Highway Y apartments just outside of Jonesburg.
Court documents said Martinez has a criminal history, including previous charges for burglary, stealing and resisting arrest.
Online court records show Martinez is being held without bond. A court hearing has not yet been scheduled.
