$940 million Mega Million jackpot winning numbers announced

The winning numbers were called for the Mega Millions jackpot Friday night: 3-20-46-59-63 and the Mega Ball was 13.

The prize -- reported at $940 million -- is the sixth largest Mega Millions prize so far. Winners of the amount have the option to get their pay over the course of 30 years, but if they choose the cash option, that payout ends up being about $483.5 million. And that's all before taxes.

Some gas stations in Columbia said they saw an increase in customers wanting to purchase a ticket to try their chances early Friday night.

““I've literally had people come in to buy $100 worth of Mega tickets,” an employee of the East Broadway Break Time in Columbia said. “$20 worth, like just, again, just repeatedly throughout the day… just for the chance of winning that much.”

Odds of winning are still about one-in-302 million, according to officials and 45 states play in the Mega Millions.

Still, as a customer who bought tickets added, “Why not?”

“Most of them are sort of clinging to hope in their eyes,” the employee said. “Which is like, kind of like a young writer look, but it's cause they're just hoping to win.”
