Hallsville man charged with rape, next hearing to be held Wednesday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Hallsville man has been charged with first-degree rape and appeared in court this week.

Thomas Hayes, 48, appeared by video from the Boone County Jail for an arraignment hearing on Monday at the Boone County Courthouse. A docket hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, while a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12.

Hayes is being held without at the Boone County Jail.

The probable cause statement claims that Hayes served a drink to the alleged victim that was drugged on Dec. 15. The victim told a Sheriff’s Deputy that they felt very dizzy after consuming the drink and fell asleep quickly. The victim said they woke up to Hayes having intercourse with them and was unable to move or speak.

Hayes allegedly sent the victim a text message on Dec. 16 reading, “So sorry about me poking [redacted] last night. Didn’t realize you really didn’t want me to do it. Now the silence lol,” according to the probable cause statement.
