Government offices closed Dec. 26 in observance of Christmas, city services affected
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Government offices – including the City of Columbia, Jefferson City and Cole and Boone counties -- will be closed for the upcoming holidays.
Emergency services will operate as normal.
COLUMBIA
The Columbia City Council voted to cancel its Tuesday, Jan. 3, meeting. Council will meet Tuesday, Jan. 17, which will be its only meeting for the month.
Additionally, several city services will be impacted by the holidays, according to a press release.
Solid Waste collections will operate Monday- Friday during the weeks of Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, as regularly scheduled. However, the landfill will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan 2.
Between Dec. 26- Jan. 31, Columbia residents can set natural Christmas trees curbside on your normally scheduled pickup day. During this period, the tree will not count as a bulky item. Natural trees stripped of decorations may also be taken to one of the Yard Waste Drop-off Centers.
Parks and Recreation's Activity & Recreation Center will close at 3 p.m. Saturday; will be closed all of Christmas Day; and will open Dec. 26. The ARC will also close at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31; will be closed Jan. 1; and will open Jan 2.
Go COMO, Columbia's public transit system, will not operate Dec. 26 or Jan. 2. Following the holiday closures, transit service will resume as normal Dec. 27 and Jan. 3, respectively.
Downtown parking meters will not be enforced Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
JEFFERSON CITY
Jefferson City offices -- including the Jefferson City Animal Shelter and Municipal Court -- will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26.
Republic Services will also be closed and trash will not be picked up. Trash collection will be delayed by one day the rest of the week with Saturday as the last pickup day, according to a press release. City buses will not operate Monday, Dec. 26.
The yard-waste drop off site at 2417 Southridge Drive will also be closed.
The same places will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2 in observance of New Year’s Day.
The Jefferson City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 in the City Council Chambers.
