Man accused in Jefferson City bar shooting denied public defender
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man accused of killing two people at a Jefferson City bar early Saturday was denied a public defender.
Damien Davis, 35, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and illegal gun possession in the shooting death of 26-year-old Skylar Smock and 43-year-old Corey Thames at J. Pfenny's Sports Grill and Pub.
According to a letter sent from the state public defender's office, he was not eligible for a public defender because his income is above threshold to be eligible to receive one.
Davis has the option to appeal this decision.
His next court appearance is 1:30 p.m. Monday for a bond-review hearing at the Cole County Circuit Court. Davis is currently being held without bond at the Cole County Jail.
