Go COMO Transit to stop at Room at the Inn at Ashley Street Center starting Nov. 28
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Go COMO Transit will extend transit service to the Ashley Street Center, 1509 Ashley St., the new location of Room at the Inn starting Monday, Nov. 28.
The orange route currently starts at Wabash Bus Station, serves stops in the North Central area and then travels north along the Rangeline Street corridor. Beginning Nov. 28, it will briefly depart from its path up Rangeline Street to travel east along Business Loop 70. From there, it will turn left onto Bowling Street and enter the parking lot occupied by the Ashley Street Center. After making a stop there, it will return to Rangeline Street along the same path.
In order to maintain a route time of 40 minutes, the orange route bus will return to Wabash Bus Station directly after servicing the stop at Rangeline Street and Wilkes Boulevard. As of Nov. 28, bus stops along Park Avenue and North Fifth Street -- and the four remaining stops along Wilkes Boulevard -- will be visited once per route, instead of the previous twice per route.
Room at the Inn provides shelter to those who may need it during winter the winter months. In October, the city approved the purchase of the VFW building on 1509 Ashley St. for the Room at the Inn Como to use as a winter-weather shelter.
The city purchased the center on Ashley Street from the VFW, and has been clearing it out getting ready for opening day on Nov. 28.
With a bigger location they will have enough room to have separate areas for female and male guests. The VFW also has a large meeting room that can seat more than 300 people, a lounge and a commercial kitchen among other features.
