MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Conservation plans to add about 35,000 trout to the lakes and waterways in the state this season

For the first time, anglers will get to fish for trout at Beuth Park Lake in Moberly. About 1,000 rainbow trout were added to the lake this week.

“There was kind of a void here and Beuth Park turns out awesome for trout fishery,” said DJ Loken, who is a fisheries manager/biologist for the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Loken believe this could be a chance to grow area interest for trout fishing for the rest of the state.

"If somebody's never trout fished before, you know it's a long drive down to Bennett Springs. You know, it's a long drive to Branson,” Loken said. “So if you can do some close to home fishing for these trout, i mean, next thing you know you say, ‘Hey, that was a lot of fun. I want to go try it at you know Bennett Springs or one of our trout parks."

The trout season in Moberly will adhere to statewide trout fishing regulations. Fishing will be open all year with a daily limit of four rainbow trout. Residents need to have a Missouri fishing license in order to participate and a trout permit, if they wish to keep what they caught.

The MDC will be adding trout McKay Park Lake in Jefferson City, Veterans Park Lake in Fulton, Kiwanis Lake in Mexico and Cosmo-Bethel Lake in Columbia. The winter season for those areas run from Nov. 1-Jan. 31.You can’t keep trout caught at those lakes during that period. Only artificial baits can be used during that period at those ponds.

Roughly 2,400 rainbow trout will be stocked at Cosmo-Bethel Lake in Columbia, according to a press release.

Maramec Spring Park, Bennett Spring State Park, Montauk State Park and Roaring River State Park will begin its winter season Nov. 11 and will run until Feb. 13. Those areas are also catch-and-release.
